TAX CLERK 004 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />6.Develops and prepares computerized notices and letters. Processes returned mail, <br />researches address corrections. Researches archived property tax records using <br />microfiche and microfilm records. <br /> <br /> <br />7.Trains temporary employees to process payments, maintain records and answer basic <br />taxpayer questions. <br /> <br /> <br />8.Files a variety of documents and forms; disposes of documents according to archive <br />guidelines. <br /> <br /> <br />9.Maintains and continually updates taxpayer address and mortgage files. <br /> <br /> <br />10.Enters data into computer system (payments, foreclosures, bankruptcies, refunds, other <br />data); completes forms. Provides backup to the Senior Tax Clerk to import and process <br />the lock box and data exchange files. <br /> <br /> <br />11.Performs general office duties related to answering phones, typing, making copies, filing, <br />processing and distributing mail, and ordering office supplies. <br /> <br /> <br />12.Performs other duties as assigned. <br /> <br />RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: <br />Knowledge of: general Oregon property tax regulations and procedures; basic alphabetic and <br />numeric filing systems and accounts classifications; modern office procedures; accounting and <br />bookkeeping practices; and basic cash handling methods and procedures. <br /> <br />Skills to: utilize Microsoft Office software; utilize assessment and taxation software <br />applications; utilize standard e-mail systems; operate standard office machines; manage <br />multi-line phones; keyboard at an acceptable rate; make arithmetic calculations of a moderately <br />complex nature; operate a 10-key calculator efficiently; input information and post payments <br />with a high degree of accuracy and speed; balance cash items; and prepare deposits. <br /> <br />Ability to: communicate effectively in both oral and written form; establish and maintain <br />effective working relationships with other staff and the public; diffuse angry or disgruntled <br />individuals visiting the office; and provide excellent customer service. <br /> <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: <br /> <br />1.Graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by courses in general office <br />AND <br />procedures; <br /> <br /> <br />2.Two (2) years of progressively responsible office experience including a minimum of one <br />OR <br />(1) year experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or cashiering; <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
