DEPARTMENT SPECIALIST 3 012 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />3.Researches and verifies client information by querying multiple computer systems; <br />interprets legal documents to update computerized information; processes complex <br />technical materials, documents and records where specific procedural requirements are <br />complicated, and where accuracy and effectiveness are critical and have statewide, <br />multijurisdictional impacts. <br /> <br /> <br />4.Trains staff in the use of data entry procedures and use of keyboard commands, formats <br />and programs; performs complex data entry; trouble shoots routine systems problems; <br />installs hardware and software; backs up computer hard discs; assists in system design <br />and software testing. <br /> <br /> <br />5.Coordinates activities (paperwork, exams, interview panels, assessment processes) for the <br />hiring of new employees; provides department and program orientation to new <br />employees. <br /> <br /> <br />6.Approves and pays expenses within specified limits; tracks Program budget for variances <br />against plan; maintains records and ledgers to provide accurate information on monetary <br />transactions and accounts; processes accounts payable and receivable for a Program, <br />Division or Department. <br /> <br /> <br />7.Participates in the technical phases of special studies, surveys, and research projects by <br />compiling and analyzing data, and independently preparing graphic charts, spreadsheets, <br />and other visuals to facilitate comparisons of data or analysis of trends; responsibility for <br />generating periodic technical reports of a complex nature. <br /> <br /> <br />8.Represents department in area of expertise as a member of statewide, interagency <br />informational meetings and committees; acts as county liaison with other agencies to give <br />and receive information in compliance with Oregon Statutes and other applicable laws. <br /> <br /> <br />9.Provides administrative or technical clerical support to one or more supervisors/managers <br />or a department head of a small department. <br /> <br />RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: <br />Considerable knowledge of: accepted modern office practices, procedures and techniques; <br />English composition, spelling, and grammar; arithmetic, clerical/accounting principles and <br />processes. <br /> <br />Some knowledge of: techniques of supervision and training; concepts and techniques of <br />prioritizing/organizing work; applicable program policies and procedures and/or rules, <br />regulations and statutes depending upon assignment of duties and responsibilities. <br /> <br />Substantial skill & ability to: independently, accurately and effectively perform assigned tasks <br />and duties following established procedures and program policies; meet and assist the public, <br />staff, clients, and other personnel of other businesses in a courteous, professional manner; <br />comprehend and adhere to stated oral and written instructions, communications and procedures; <br /> <br /> <br />
