PARALEGAL 015 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />6.Screens correspondence and determines how to handle routine items; prepares routine <br />legal correspondence for own signature; maintains contact and responds to routine <br />questions from attorneys, clients, outside agencies, members of the public and others on <br />case status. <br /> <br /> <br />7.Functions as a local area network (LAN) computer liaison; serves as liaison to IT <br />personnel; assists users with computer problems. <br /> <br /> <br />8.Serves as backup for phones and reception as necessary. <br /> <br />RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: <br />Knowledge of: operations of local government, Oregon and federal laws, and regulations; the <br />methods of preparation of legal instruments; court procedures and processes; interview <br />techniques; business English, grammar and legal terminology; modern office procedures; and <br />data processing systems, LANs and personal computers. <br /> <br />Strong skills in: word processing <br /> <br />Strong ability to: understand and apply legal procedures and regulations to varied case <br />requirements; follow oral and written instructions of a complex nature; and <br /> <br />Ability to: render clear explanations of legal procedures and regulations; maintain <br />confidentiality; manage long-term projects; and maintain effective working relationships with <br />clients, attorneys, staff, and other individuals. <br /> <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: <br /> AND <br />1.Graduation from high school or equivalent; <br /> <br /> OR <br />2.Completion of a two (2) year paralegal or legal assistant program; <br /> <br /> <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant <br />AND <br />to the position; <br /> <br /> <br />4.Good working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet computer programs is <br />required for positions in this classification.
