Marion County
OREGON
PUBLIC WORKS
October 26, 2021
(503)588-5036
Dan Buss
BOARD OF 1914 37th Ave NW,
COMMISSIONERS Salem, OR 97304
Kevin Cameron
Sam Brentano
Colm Willis RE: Proposed major repair permit no. 555-21-010382 at 34893 North Fork
Road SE, Lyons, OR
DIRECTOR
Brian Nicholas, P.E.
Dear Dan,
ADMINISTRATION
I have evaluated test pits at the above referenced property for the purpose
BUILDING of your major repair application, my findings are below:
INSPECTION
Approved Area & System Type
EMERGENCY Soil test pits and other site features were evaluated during the site visit on
MANAGEMENT - October 20, 2021. Conditions observed during this site evaluation indicate
ENGINEERING that the area around the evaluated test holes is not capable of supporting
a Standard septic system due to the following limitations:
ENVIRONMENTAL
SERVICES Depth to Soil with Rapid or Very Rapid Permeability
OPERATIONS DEQ Rule requirement: Soil with rapid or very rapid permeability
must be 36" below the ground surface. "Soil with rapid or very rapid
PARKS permeability" refers to sandy loam or coarser soil with 35% or more
PLANNING coarse fragments over 2mm; loamy sand or sand; or stones, cobbles,
gravel and rock fragments with too little soil material to fill the void
SURVEY spaces. OAR 340-071-0220(1)(c)
Description: Treatment of sewage occurs in the soil around the
drainfield area. If the sewage enters the groundwater before it has
been adequately treated in the soil, it poses a potential public health
hazard. A layer of rapid permeability was observed around 8 inches
at this site.
Specific Requirements
This property will require EITHER a 600 square foot seepage bed
absorption system OR 150 linear feet of pressurized distribution lines
per this approval.
Specific sizing and site placement details can be found on the attached
5155 Silverton Road NE•Salem,OR 97305-3802• www.co.marion.or.us/PW
Printed on recycled paper• Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Recover
