The purpose
of that visit was to determine whether sufficient area was available
to install disposal trenches to effect a repair of the failing on-
site sewage disposal system serving the Pythian Building. We
determined that the available area for a repair consisted of a
triangle approximately 20 feet on each side, which also contained the
septic tank.

Chapter 340-71-335(3) allows the use of a seepage pit only to serve
existing sewage loads and to replace existing failing seepage pits on
lots that are inadequate in size to accommodate a standard system or
other alternative on-site sewage disposal system, given compliance
with the construction requirements of OAR 340-71-335(4).

We concur with your determination that the use of a seepage pit ~o£
repair of the system serving the Pythian Building is appropriate.

If you have any questions in regard to this letter, please call me at
378-8240.

Sincerely,

Joe Petrovich
Environmental Specialist

JAP/ss
f:~jap~Pythian.ltr

cc: Sewage System Section

DEQ/WV~-101 1/88
