20. Porches, balconies or raised floor surfaces located more than 30 in. above the floor or grade shall have guardrails not less than 36 in. in bt. Required guardrails shall have intermediate rails or ornamen- tal closures which will not allow passage of an object 6 in. or more in diameter. R- 214.2 SmoKe detectors shall be installed outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the dwelling including basements.
