MARION COUNTY
DEPT. OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

CRAIG O LUI~DEMAN

Planning 5~8-5038

Senator Building, 220 High Street NE · Second Floor * Salem. Oregon 97301-3670

November 20,1985

North Marion School District
ATTN: Doug Madsen
20256 Grim Road N.E.
Aurora, Orecon 97002

Subject: School Gymnasium Remodel

Dear Mr. Madsen:

After reviewing the pictures taken by Marion County Building
Inspector, Bob Haley, it is evident that code violations do exist
at the above named building.

When removing the existing roofinq material, the saw was allowed
to penetrate into the structural roof sheathinq. These saw cuts
are apparent in both directions, width and across the grain of the
sheathing. Those cuts that are made in the same direction as the
grain, thouQh not desirable, do not propose a complete structural
failure. The cuts that cross the grain of the sheathing are in
structural failure, and repairs must be made.

This could be accomplished bv blockin~ between the joist-rafters
with 2 inch thick nominal material. The code requires that the
ends of 3/4 inch sheathin0 must bear on a framing member. The
broken pieces of sheathing, caused by sawing parallel to the
~rain, should have been patched from above, prior to installing
the base ply. The roofing manufacturer should be contacted to
state in writin~ that their product will span the voids.

Places where the electrical conduit has been sawn, must be
repaired. Conductors must be removed and rep].aced after the
repair of the conduit. If the affected conduit has been
abandoned, and is not in use, it must be removed to prevent
future use by an unsuspecting party. All work must be completed
by a licensed Electrical Contractor and will require an
electrical permit and inspection.

Please notify this office at 588-5147 when all necessary repairs
have been made.

Sincerely,

DONALD E. WOODLEY
BUILDING OFFICIAL

CRAIG O. LUEDEMAN
DIRECTOR
