Porches, carport slabs, garage floor slabs and steps exposed <br />to the weather shall have a minimum specified COmpressive strength of <br />3500 psi. Table NO. (R-302.2) <br /> <br />Basement walls, foundation walls, and other vertical concrete exposed to <br />the weather shall have a minimum specified compressive strength of <br />3000 psi. Porches, carport slabs, garage floor slabs and steps exposed <br />to the weather shall have a minimum specified compressive strength of <br />3500 psi. Table No. (R-302.2) <br /> <br />Exterior foundation walls of masonry construction enclosing basements <br />shall be dampproofed. Foundation walls of habitable rooms located below <br />grade shall be waterproofed. (R-306.1) <br /> <br />Foundation cripple walls shall be framed of studs with a minimum length <br />of 14 inches or shall be framed of solid blocking. (R-402.9) <br /> <br />Column bases shall be protected against decay except when approved wood <br />of natural decay resistance or approved pressure preservatively treated <br />wood is used. Basement posts or columns supported by'piers projecting 2 <br />inches above the finish floor and separated by an approved impervious <br />barrier may be untreated wood. (H-307.1) <br /> <br />stairways shall not be less than 3 feet in clear width and the headroom <br />shall not be less than 6 feet S inches. (R-213.1) <br /> <br />Handrails shall be mounted between a minimum of 30 inches and a maximum <br />of 38 inches. (R-214.1) <br /> <br />Every sleeping room shall have at least one operable window approved for <br />emergency egress or rescue. The window sill height shall not be more <br />than 44 inches above th~ floor. The minimum net clear opening width <br />dimension shall be 20 inches. The minimum net opening height shall be <br />24 inches. The minimum net clear openisg area shall be at least 5.7 <br />square feet. (R-210.2) <br /> <br />Openings between the garage and residence shall be equipped with solid <br />wood doors not less than 1 3/8 inches in thickness or equivalent. <br />(R-209.1) A 20 minute rated door is equivalent to the solid wood door. <br /> <br />A i 3/8 inch solid wood door between the garage and residence does not <br />meet the 0.20 U value requirement for exterior doors required for Energy <br />Paths ~1 - #S. If a 20 minute rated door is used it must be labelled as <br />complying with the 0.20 U value. <br /> <br />Smoke detectors shall be installed outside of each separate sleeping <br />area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional <br />story of the dwelling including basements. In dwelling units with split <br />levels, a smoke detector need be installed only on the upper level, <br />provided the lower level is less than one full story below the upper <br />level, except that if there is a door between levels then a detector is <br />required on each level. Ail detectors shall be connected to a sounding <br />device or other detectors to provide, when actuated, an alarm which will <br />be audible in all sleeping areas.
