March 20, 1995 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />front end positioned not less than 24 inches in front of the water closet. <br />Grab bars located at the back shall be a minimum of 36 inches long. <br />(3109(j) (5) (C)) <br /> <br />Toilet paper and other dispensers or receptacles shall be installed within <br />easy reach of the water closet, and shall not interfere with unobstructed <br />floor space or grab bar use. Toilet paper dispensers shall be a minimum <br />of 19 inches above the floor. Other dispensers shall have reach ranges as <br />specified in Section 3109(b) 3E and F. (3109(j)$) <br /> <br />The maximum slope of a ramp on an accessible route is 1 vertical to 12 <br />horizontal. The ramp shall be at least 36 inches in clear width. <br />Landings shall be provide top and bottom of each run. Landings shall be <br />level and have a minimum dimension measured in the direction of ramp run <br />of not less than 60 inches. The maximum rise between landings for any <br />ramp run shall be ~0 inches. ~andrails, as required for stairs, shall be <br />provided on ramps having slopes steeper than 1 vertical to 20 horizontal. <br />Ramps and Landings with drop-Offs shall have curbs, walls or projecting <br />surfaces that prevent people from slipping off the ramp. Curbs shall be <br />at least 2 inches high and/or extended platforms shall be at least 12 <br />inches wide. Ramps on accessible routes shall have a slip resistance with <br />a static coefficient of friction of 0.8. (3109(g)) <br /> <br />Hot water and drain pipes exposed under lavatories or sinks shall be <br />insulated or otherwise covered. There shall be no sharp or abrasive <br />eurfaoes u~der lavatories or sinks. (3109(j)7D) <br /> <br />Lavatory and sink faucet control handles shall be located no more than 17 <br />inches from the front edge of the lavatory, sink or counter and shall have <br />lever or other shape permitting operation by wrist or arm pressure and not <br />requiring tight grasping, pinching or twisting to operate. The force <br />required to activate such equipment shall be no greater than ~ pounds_ <br />Self closing valves are allowed if the faucet remains open for at least 10 <br />seconds. (3109(j)7E) <br /> <br />Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of omissions or oversights by this <br />office or of nonco~apliance with any applicable regulations of local government. <br /> <br />This project may be subject to the architectural standards of the Americans with <br />Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). Issuance of a building permit does not certify <br />compliance with this Federal Statute. Copies of the guidelines and information <br />concerning the ADA may be obtained from the Architectural and Transportation <br />Barriers Compliance Board, 1-202-653-7834 (Voice/TDD) or 1-800 USA-ABLE.
