The intent of this
rule, though not very clear, is to allow the attachment of awnings and carports to the sidewalls of
manufactured dwellings.

The proper attachment of an awning or carport ~hould consist of the following: Ttitefiam~ing or carport
rail should:be attache4 :,with lag sc~ewS~d?*~tl'~. ;~-~¢h.,i:kli~alI:'~t';~(~rafl~ are lBually.at':16'~:on center)
gdr[achment m the siding only is not acceptable and we do not recormnead attaching rails to sidewall mp
plates. The single 1" top plates will easily split out from the lag screws and neither 1" or 2" manufactured
dwelling top plates are designed to transfer the roof live loads of the manufactured dwelling or the
awning/carport to the studs. To transfer the leads from the sidewall studs to the ground, the current roles
suggest perimeter pier blocking at 8' on center. However, with the increased weight of the newer
manufactured dwellings and the additional roof load from the awning/carpo~:!~:onT.center:would be more
appropriate. All other attachments should be made according to the aw~htng/carport manufacturer's
engineered plans with special attention paid to the top and bottom post connections and ground anchors.

Regarding your question of which t. ake~ precedence for the attachment of a¢c,e~gory structures to
manufactured dwellings (manufactured dwelling manufacturer's installation instructions vs. Oregon
Specialty Codes), the Oregon SpecS/lily Codes tal~e precedence.

Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. We are currently in the proeeas of re-writing the
manufactured dwelling rules and will attempt to make this section more clear and more "reset friendly."

PATRICK D.
