The inmnt of this
rule, though not very clear, is to allow the attachment of awnings and carports to the sidew~dls of
manufactured dwellings.

The proper attachment of an awning or carport should consist of the following:
rail ~6" on center):
Attachment tothe siding only is not acceptable and wY do not recommend attaching rails to sidewall top
plates. The single 1" top plates will easily split out fi:om the lag screws and neither l" or 2" manufacture~l
dwelling top plates are designed to trar~fer the' roof live loads of the manufactured dwelling or the
awning/carpor~ to the scads. To transfer the loads :from the sidewall studs to the ground, the current rules
suggest perimeter pier blocking at $' on center. However, with the increased weight of the newer
manufactured dwellings and the ad&ttonal roof load from the awnmg/carport,.~ on center would be more
appropriate. All other attachments should be mad, according to the awning/carport manufacturer's
engineered plav~ with special attention paid to the[top and bottom post comxections and ground anchors.

Regarding your question of which takes prec~ance for tho attackment of accessory structures to
manufactured dwellings (manufactured dwelling: manufacturor's installation instructions vs. Oregon
Specialty Codes), the Oregon SpecitdW Codes take precedence.

PATRICK D.
