The single 1" top plates will easily split out from the lag screws and neither 1" or 2" manuqactured
dwelling top plates are designed to transfer the roof live loads of the manufactured dwelling or the
awning/carport to the studs. To transfer the loads from the sidewall studs to the ground, the current rules
suggest perinaetor pier blocking at 8' on center. However, with the inereas~ yqeig~.,,~:,pf~the newer
manufactured dwellings and the Mdmonal roof load from the awning/carport, 4 on cem~r would be more
appropriate..All other attachraents should be made according to the awning/carport manufacturer's
engineered plans with special attention paid to the top and bottom post connections and ground anchors.

Regarding your question of which takes precedence for the attachment of accessory structures to
manufactured dwellings (manufactured dwelling manufacturer's ins~lation instructions vs. Oregon
Specialty Codes), the Oregon Specialty Codes take precedence.

Thank you for bringing this issue to ray alXent~on. We are currently ia the process of re-writing the
manufactured dwelling rules end will attempt to make this section more clear and more "user friendly."

PATRICK D.
