Sound Transmission Loss <br /> Test RAL"-TL98-195 <br /> ON: FASWALL° Permanent Insulating <br /> Wall Forms (WF) Wall Page 1 of 3 <br /> CONDUCTED: 10 September 1998 <br /> TEST METHOD <br /> Unless otherwise designated, the measurements reported below were made with <br /> all facilities and procedures in explicit conformity with the ASTM <br /> Designations E90-97 and E413-87, as well as other pertinent standards. <br /> Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories has been accredited by the U.S. Department <br /> of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the <br /> National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for this test <br /> procedure. A description of the measuring technique is available separately. <br /> The microphone used was a Bruel & Kjaer serial number 951371. <br /> DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIMEN <br /> The test specimen was designated by the manufacturer as a FASWALL° permanent <br /> insulating wall forms (WF) wall . The overall dimensions of the sample were <br /> nominally 2.74 m (108 in.) high by 4.27 m (168 in.) wide and 305 mm (12 in. ) <br /> thick. The specimen was installed by workers of K-X Aggregate, Inc. directly <br /> into the laboratory's 2.74 m (9 ft) by 4.27 m (14 ft) wood-lined steel frame <br /> and was sealed on the periphery (both sides) with a dense mastic. The <br /> manufacturer's description of the specimen was as follows: The FASWALL° <br /> insulating permanent concrete forms (ICF) were manufactured in a block making <br /> machine using the K-X mineral processed wood fiber chips (K-X Aggregate) mixed <br /> with cement and fly ash. The wall forms (WF) were interlocked on the side <br /> with a female-male design to hold the WF in line. The WF were stacked dry <br /> without staggering them and no mortar was used. Three steel #4 rebars were <br /> inserted in the WF vertical cores and four horizontal rebars were spaced on <br /> 813 mm (32 in.) centers. The rebars were overlapped 305 mm (12 in.) . The WF <br /> were filled with 3000 psi concrete that was mixed in a concrete mixer and <br /> filled into the cores with buckets. A stucco mix that consisted of 50% white <br /> sand, 40% portland cement and 10% lime was applied 3.2 mm (0.125 in. ) to 4.8 <br /> mm (0. 188 in.) in thickness on the outside of the wall assembly (noise source <br /> side) . The interior side of the wall was finished with 16 mm (0.625 in. ) Type <br /> X gypsum wallboard nailed directly to the WF wall assembly. The weight of the <br /> specimen as calculated was 5,543 kg (12,220 lbs) an average of 473.8 kg/m2 <br /> (97.0 lbs/ft2) . The transmission area used in the calculations was 11.7 m2 <br /> (126 ft2) .
