II Events
A. Special Events
Special events are held in some of the Museum buildings. They are
primarily membership meetings. Sometimes these meetings include a catered meal or a
potluck. Attendance rarely exceeds 60 people. There is a 3500 ft2 floor space limit inside
Powerland museums. This equates to a 233 people limit. There are currently only 2
museums holding(09-16)membership events, Auto and Truck. The Caterpillar Museum
holds an annual meeting during Steam-Up. Museums at Powerland are allowed to hold
fund raising events in their building. (see 09-16). Very few of these events have actually
occurred, but they may increase in the future. The Auto Museum would most likely rent
portable toilets for such events until their restrooms are completed. The Oregon Electric
Railroad Museum only holds events out-of-doors and they include streetcar rides. They
use the Truck Museum for membership meetings of about 65 people.
B. Site Events
Antique Powerland rents the site or portions of the site for corporate
picnics, family reunions, church picnics, car shows, heritage power related organizations
and similar groups. (see 09-16)These events occur outside. A few museums might be
opened and usually the streetcar is operating. The biggest of these events would be 200
people, well within the current restroom capacity.
Powerland organization events such as the Great Oregon Steam-Up provides up to
40 portable toilets to supplement the permanent restrooms. The Northwest Truck Show,
EDGE&TA Swap Meet and Oregon Tractor Pullers Association tractor pull may also rent
portable toilets.
So events have adequate sanitary facilities to serve the persons attending these
events.
C. Tours
There are many types of tour groups that visit Powerland. They include
retirement centers, schools(pre school through College)and clubs of various interests.
(cars, tools,machines, engines,trucks,railroads etc.)These groups seldom exceed 50
people although the Beaverton School District field trip has about 80 participants. These
tours are usually satisfied with one or two open museums along with trolley rides. Some
groups, especially retirement centers tour the grounds in people movers and do not have
to walk to restrooms.
D. Other Events
Every 3-4 years Powerland plans to continue hosting the Boy Scouts
Camporee. This event, which includes overnight camping, is completely self contained
including portable restrooms. There are no other similar events allowed at Powerland.
E. Event Restrictions (see 09-16)
Request for events that do not relate to heritage power are not allowed at
Powerland. This includes such things as a national dog show, various horse shows, Cinco
de Mayo celebration, wine conventions an so on. (These are examples of previous
fir denials.)
