Page 2
Burby

3. On sheet SIO:

I cannot determine any benefits in providing bedding materia]
and crushed rock along side of, above, or to the ground surface
in the building sewer trenches, effluent sewer trenches, main
and secondary pressure transport trenches, and pressure manifold
trenches, During heavy rainfall or snow melt periods, I would
expect surface and soil waters to be collected and flow in
these, if constructed as designed, Since the disposal field is
at the "end of the llne", you cOUld flood it out. I would
simply bed only the bottoms of the pipes and fill the remainder
of the trenches with backfilled soils, I would not use any
bedding on the pressure transport pipes; this is particularly
important on the pressure manifold portions of your system.

Do not excavate a conmon trench down through the disposal fields
to ~ the pressure manifold pipes. If you do, all effluent
will flow down to the bottom lines and flood them ou~. ) would
reco~end hand digging narrow trenches for this portion of the
system, and not having them any deeper than is necessary for a
connection to the individual pressure distribution laterals. On
a sloping hillside, you want an undisturbed earthen barrier
maintained between individual lateralS, SO effluent from one
line cannot short circuit into a lower line.

On the individual disposal field pressure distribution laterals;
they need to have a filter material that ranges in size from
l~1/2 to 2-1/2 inches. There must be a minimum of 12 inches of
backfilled soils. Do not extend the filter material to the
ground surface as show~ in the plans, (or you'll be sorry!).

The diagram of the two compartment septic tank appears
reversed. The inlet compartment needs to be 2/3 the size of the
total volume, The outlet fitting from the first compartment to
the second compart~nt also needs to be reversed; otherwise, it
will pick up sludge accumulations from the first compartment.

1/8 inch opening screens are definitely necessary, either in the
tanks or in the dosing chamber, prior to the dosing siphons,
The screens should have a minimum of twelve IlS) square feet of
surface area.

4. On sheet Slt:

The dosin9 tank needs to be provided with a manhole access ~ha~
has the following minimum horizontal dimensions;
1. Opening at tank soffit - 30 inches.
2. Inside of manway - 42 inches.
