However, this interpretation is limited to public restrooms containing only one <br /> water closet. <br /> 2) Two continuous beads of approved caulking material between the sole plate and the <br /> vinyl sheet floor covering with a bead of caulking material at the juncture of the floor <br /> and finished wall, covered with 4- inch rubber base shoe sealed to the floor with a <br /> bead of caulking material between the base shoe and the floor and between the <br /> upper edge of the base shoe and the wall. Base shoe interior and exterior <br /> corners may be factory made. <br /> Analysis: OSSC Section 1210.2 requires walls within 2 feet of urinals and water closets <br /> to have "smooth, hard, nonabsorbent surface, to a height of 4 feet above the floor <br /> and that the "materials used in such walls shall be of a type that is not adversely <br /> affected by moisture". <br /> Section 1210.1 requires that "in other than dwelling units, toilet, bathing and shower <br /> room floor finish materials shall have a smooth, hard, nonabsorbent surface. The <br /> intersections of such floors with walls shall have a smooth, hard, nonabsorbent vertical <br /> base that extends upward onto the walls at least 4 inches". <br /> Contact: Richard S.
