PROPOSED MERCANTILE GREENHOUSE WITH CC1 ROOF PLASTIC.
•
Compare Greenhouse to Low Hazard Occupancy Building from 2010 OSSC Ch 26 Sec
2609.2 and 2609.4 for Area and Percentage of CC1 Roof Plastic.
Allowable coverage of CC1 on Low Hazard Occupancy Building;Area of 5,000 sq. ft.,
with No Separation of Panels.
Example,taken from 2010 OSSC 2609.4 Exception 2: A swimming Pool Shelter;
Occupant Load 5,000/50=100 occupants for occupant load under roof portion only.
Proposed building is a total of 6,272 sq. ft.,but only 4,480 sq. ft. of the building is
proposed to be a greenhouse and have CC1 roof plastic. Since greenhouse areas are
separated by an existing building, each area of the greenhouse CC1 roof would be limited
to 2,240 sq. ft.
1. 2,240 sq. ft. in areas is less than 50%of the allowable roof area of a Low Hazard
Occupancy. Total proposed amount of CC1 on roof is less than allowable on a
Low Hazard Building.
2. Occupant load of greenhouse 2240/30=75 occupants(actual occupant load should
be less with plant displays),this would require two exits. This would also provide
a maximum travel distance of 70 feet; Exiting from a 5000 sq. ft. pool structure
® would be approx 71 feet in travel distance.
3. Exiting from greenhouse structure would be accomplished much faster, since the
occupants would not be restricted by the water in a swimming pool and/or a
structure that is 5,000 sq. ft. in area.
4. Existing building would not be required to exit through greenhouse areas for any
portion of the Exit System.
Note: Recommendation of two exits equally spaced directly to exterior from each
greenhouse section, in addition to the existing doors of the existing building for
egress.
Proposed greenhouse building is less hazardous than Low Hazard Occupancy due to:
1. Smaller roof area of plastic panel roofing,
2. Reduced occupant load,
3. Reduced travel distance,
4. Number of exits, and exiting time.
•
