January 29, 1988

MARION COUNTY
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
BUILDING INSPECTION DIVISION

Senator Building · 220 High Street NE - Second Floor · Salem, Oregon 9~301-3670

Aurora Colony Historic Society
P.O. Box 202
Aurora, Oregon

CP, AIG ~ LUEDEMAN
Dir~or

Buildir~ Inap~tio~ 500-SM7

SUBJECT: 15009 Second Street, Aurora
Sewage Complaint

An investigation was made at the above address on January 15,
1988 in response to a complaint received in this office. It
appeared that sewage was discharging to the surface of the ground
at the northwest corner of the property. A tracer dye was placed
in the toilet and in the bathroom sink at 2:05 PM on that date to
determine if sewage from this residence is discharging to the
surface of the ground. Mr. Dick Johnson, City of Aurora, observed
the dye on the ground surface in the area of the suspected sewage
on January 20, 1988. There is a possibility that the problem may
be in the plumbing rather than the septic system. It appears that
the plumbing may be in two separate systems each discharging to
separate septic systems. If this is the case, the plumbing should
be changed so that all of the sewage from the house discharges to
the septic tank.

The Department of ~nvironmental Quality On-Site Sewage Disposal
Rules state that the discharge of sewage or septic tank effluent
onto the surface of the ground constitutes a public health hazard
and is prohibited. It is, therefore, necessary to make repairs at
the above address to eliminate the sewage dischaTge to the ground
surface.

An application must be .submitted to this office for either a
Plumbing Pe~lt or an On-Site Sewage Disposal Repair Permit. The
application must be received by this office within fourteen (14)
days and the repairs must be completed within thirty (30) days
from the date of this letter.

If you have any questions, please contact this office.
hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 4:30.

REGISTERED SANITARIAN

Our office
