From our point of view the two rooms could be looked at as a hotel room with lock-off bedrooms which would be separated at the common walls to the adjacent set of rooms but would not be separated at the common location. This would allow the use of the sliding doors without closers at the common bathroom. This would require a local alternate method but you would have our support for the file. If the separating walls are non-bearing then they can be non-rated per table 601 in VA construction but they would still need to meet the % hr. construction criteria per 420.2. If so, then the walls would meet the criteria for 0.5 hr. ratings per 420.2 and 708.1 which takes you to 708.3 exception 2. The doors would be 1/3 hr. rated door assemblies per table 716.5 which I believe require 460 closers.
