MICHAEL L. WELLMAN, ARCHITECT LLC
P.O. BOX 1288, SILVERTON, OREGON 97381
SO3-873-8111 (OFFICE/FAX) 2
a-mall well42060yahoo.com
February 22, 2019
Silver Creek Fellowship AMM Proposed Alternate
I. The current building is Type I1A, non-combustible construction.
2. The proposed covered patio will be of the same construction type.
3. The building and proposed patio cover has 60' plus yards on all sides.
4. The proposed patio cover is open to yards on 2 sides&does not exit through the
building.
5. Conversely the building occupants do not exit through the patio area.
6. The existing building is provided with(10)-36"exit doors dispersed around the building.
The computed occupant load for the building and this addition is 1,169 and would
require(7)-36"exit doors(1169 x 0.2=234 inches of exit width). All exits are
accessible.
7. The existing building fire alarm system has smoke detection, manual pull stations&fire
department notification. This system was upgraded for the last building addition. See
attached.
The State of Oregon's Building Codes Division (BCD)has issued it's White Paper titled
"Alternates to Fire Sprinkler Systems". This document outlines alternate methods or upgrades in
lieu of providing fire sprinklers by going beyond Code minimums where strict compliance is
impractical or impossible. In this case this the property has no water source available for fire
sprinklers as it is not in the City. As stated above we have non-combustible construction, yards
on all sides, extra exiting capacity and an upgraded fire alarm system. Each of these upgrades go
beyond Code requirements and should satisfy the intent of Code required fire sprinklers.
9 nCf
J
c- CHA L.
