Marion Count ;

OREGON
COMMUNITY DEVt:LO FMEN'I'
DEPARTMENT

The following information describes the operation and maintenance needs o2
your Sand Filter System.

The septic tank acts as a separation chamber for both seetieable and floating
solid material. The solids are retained in the tank and the liquid is allowed
to £1o~ through the tank, The tank efficiency is partly dependent irs capaci-

level of solid material in the tank at a level that will not,allow the flow of
solids out of the tank and into th= sand Filter unit. A~otification letter
will be sent based on the sy,tem e~pletion date of ~/wf/~ ~

The ~ecOnd tank in the sy~t~ is a do~i~g tank which Contains the effluent
p~mp apparatus. The syst~ is set to di~oha~g~ a~proximately ninety (90)
9allon~ ~r cycle for a homesit~ with a sewage flow up to 450 gallons per ~a~,
Th~ pump ~tation should be in~cte~ and te~ted yearly. Any changes In

to r~t=ict the flow of suspended solid material to the pump, If allo~d to

Sand Fil=er and cause a failure in the system. The screen should be inspected
yearly and cleaned a~ needed,

A garbage disposal in ne% recommended. If you have or plan to add one to you~
kitchen, caution should be exercised with its use. The added ~astes can
Contribute to system performance problems. The septic tank should be pumped
more of%eh with a disposal on the system, possibly every two (2} years.

a~e several =hiDgm you should not do to a Sand Filter;
Flush unusual or high strength wastes such as photographic chemicals or
water softener backwash.

Ignore leak~ in plumbing, especially toilets. The additional wa~er flow
can cause system failure.

Signi~ican=ly Change the use of the system thereby increasing the waste
atrength or volume such as adult foster care~ beauty salons, etc..

Use chemical or biological septic treatments as these can have an
adverse affect On system components and/or effluent characteris~£~.
