DIRECTOR
Crai§ O. NE, Aurora has been completed. Unfortunately, the stakeout
conflicts with the requirements of the Depamnent of Environmental Quality On-Site
Sewage Disposal Rules. A separation of fifty (50) feet is required between the
dralnfield and any downslope manmade excavation which is greater than 30 inches
in depth. The proposed house with a full basement is directly downslope of the septic
system stakeout. As a result, the septic system, as proposed, cannot be approved.

It appears that there is inadequate area on the lot to install a standard septic system
and meet the required separation distances fi:om the house as it is cun'ently proposed
with a full basement. It may be possible to install a sand filter system on the property
and meet the separation requirements. Sand filters require a smaller amount of
drainfield and it may be possible to lay out a system that is not directly upslope of
the house. The drainfleld sizing for a sand filter system requires 125 lineal feet of
drainfleld for the initial system and area for 125 lineal feet ofdrainfleld for the future
repair. If this amount of dminfield can be staked on the property to meet the required
setbacks, we will reconsider your application for a septic system construction permit.

If you have any questions, pleas call our office. I am normally available during the
morning hours between 8:00 and 9:30.

Registered Sanitarian

Donald Woodley
Building Official

copy: City of Aurora

Community Development Center · 285 Church Street N.E., Room 132 · Salem, Oregon 97301-3670
