The intent of this
rule, though not very clear, is to allow the attachment of awnings and carporu to the sidewalls of
manufactured dwellings.

The proper attachment of ~ awning or carport should consist of the following: The awntiig St Carport
rail. ,~hould bo artach,d with 1~ screws dirGe:fy to ,ach ~idewall stud (~tu& are usually at 16" on center).
Attachment to the aiding only is not acc, ptablo and we do not recommend attach[n.g rails to ,idewall top
piat~. Tho single l" top plat,~ will easily 8pIit our from ~e lag screws ~d noit.h.,r I ~ or 2' m~ufactured
dwelling ~op plar~ ~¢ d~signed to transfer the root liv~ load~ of tho m~nufacmrod dwelIing or th,
awatng/c~.rport to ~e studs. To transfer th, loads from th~ sidewall studs to the ground, 0aG current rute,q
suggest p~rimeter pier blocking at 8' on c,nter. However, with the tneroas~t weight of the newer
manufactured dwellings 8nd th.e additional roof load from the awning/carport, 4' on center would bo more
approprlato. All other attachments should be made according to th, awning/carport manufacturer's
engineered plans with special ~ttt(mtion p~ict to the top and bottom post ¢onn~ctiom and ground anchors.

K~garding your question of which takes prurience for the attachment of accessory structures to
manufactured dwellingi (manufactured dwelling manufacturer's installation instructions vs. Oregon
Specialty Codes), the Oregon Specialty Codes take preceden¢~.

Thank you for bringing thi~ is~u, to my attention. We are currently tn th~ process of re-writing th~
manufactured dw~illng roles and will attempt to make this see:ion more clear ~d more "user friendly,"

PATRiCK D.
