Foundation plates shall be bolted to the foundation with a minimum 1/2 - <br />inch diameter by 10 inch anchor bolts embedded at least 7 inches into concrete or reinforced <br />masonry and spaced not more than 6 feet apart with a minimum of 2 bolts per piece with one bolt <br />within 12 inches of the end of each piece. [Fig. 403.1a] <br /> <br />2. ATTIC VENTS. Provide screened attic vents with a net free area of 1t150 of the attic area <br />(or 1/300 if between 50 and 80% of required area is ventilators in the upper portion of the atbc <br />and located at least 3 feet above eave or cornice vents. As an alternative, install a 4 mil vapor <br />barrier on the warm side of the ceiling. [Sec. 806.2]. <br /> <br />3 THE GARAGE shall be separated from the dwelling and its attic area by means of 1/2-inch <br />gypsum board applied to the garage side of the wall, Where the separation is a floor-ceiling <br />assembly, the structure supporting the separation shall be protected by 1/~-inch gypsum board <br />or equivalent. The door between the garage and residence shall be equipped with solid wood <br />doors not less than 1 3/8 inches in thickness or 20-minute fire rated, or equivalent. [Sec. 309.1 <br />3092] <br /> <br />4. EVERY SLEEPING ROOM shall have at least one operable window approved for emergency <br />egress or rescue. The window sill height shall not be more than 44 inches above the floor The <br />minimum net clear opening is 5.7 square feet. The minimum net clear opening height shall be 22 <br />inches. The minimum net c~ear openir~g width shalt be 20 inches. Exception: Grade floor <br />windows may have a minimum net clear opening of 5 square feet. [Sec. 310.2, 310.2.1] <br /> <br />5 SMOKE DETECTORS/ALTERATIONS. When alterations repairs or additions are made to an <br />existing dwelling, the entire building shall be provided with smoke detectors located as required <br />for new dwellings. The smoke detectors are not required to be interconnected unless other <br />remodeling considerations require removal of the appropriate wall and ceiling coverings to <br />facilitate interconnecting wiring. [Sec. 316.1.1] <br /> <br />6 FIRESTOPPING shall be provided in the following locations: <br /> 1) In concealed spaces of stud walls, including furred spaces not to exceed 10 feet <br /> horizontally, and at the ceiling and floor level. <br /> <br /> <br />
