Project No. 435.001.G
Page No. 2

:3udng our site reconnaissance, we did not observe any s~gns or evidence of gross slope
instability or landsliding although some minor surface erosion is present.

Vegetation across the slope consists pfimadly of a light to moderate growth of grass and weeds
as well as some brush and occasional trees.

Conclusions and Recommendations

Based on the results of our recent site reconnaissance, a review of available geologic maps and
reports for the area of the subject site as well as our present undemtand of the project, we are of
the ooinion that the site is suitable for the planned new building addition provided that the
following recommendations are prepedy incorporated into the design and construction of the
project.

in general, we recommend that the now building addition be supported by ddven steel piles
consisting of a W8x28 pile section or larger. Due to the anticipated rocky and/or bouldery nature
of the existing subsurface soit materials located along the slope area. we envision that the pile
tips will require tapered and/or beveled tips to allow for adequate pile penetrations and
minimize damage to the pile tip. All piles shall ~e ddven to an ultimate pile capacity of at least
210 kips per pile. Additionally, all piles shall be driven to the specified ultimate capacity using
ddving cdteria developed from the ODOT Gates Equation with a factor of safety of 3.0.
However. we recommena a minimum ~)ile embedment of at least twenty (20) feel beneath
existing site grades.

Lateral loads may be resisted by passive earth pressures against the embedded portion of the
driven steal piis sectio~ based on an equivalent fluid density of about 150 ~)ounds per cubic foot
(pcf).

Settlements of driven steel oiles placed and constructed in accordance with the above
recommendations should generally be well within the tolerable limits for this type of wood-frame
structure and generally tess than about 1/2-inch.

In addition to the above, we recommend that all aspects of the pile driving and installation wo~
~3e monitored by the Geotechnical Engineer.

Closure

The services performed by the Geotechnical Engineer for this project have been conducted with
that level of care and skill ordinarily exercised by members of the profession currently practicing
in the area under similar budget and time restraints. No warranty, either expressed or implied, is
made.

REDMOND & ASSOCIATES
