In now construction, the required <br />smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from the <br />building wiring when such wiring is served from a con~ercial <br />source, and when primary power is interrupted, shall receive <br />power from a battery. Wiring shall be permanent and not <br />switched, Smoke detectors shall be permitted to be battery <br />operated when installed in existing buildings without <br />commercial power or in buildings which undergo alterations, <br />repairs or additions regulated by Section 216,11 <br />[Sec, 216.2] <br />FIRESTOPPING shall be provided in the following locations, <br />1. In concealed spaces of stud walls, including furred <br /> spaces not to exceed 10 feet horizontally, and at the <br /> ceiling and floor level. <br />2. At all interconnections between concealed vertical and <br /> horizontal spaces such as occur at soffits, drop or cove <br /> ceilings, etc. <br />3. At openings around vents, pipes and ducts at the ceiling <br /> and floor level with noncombustible materials. <br />EXTERIOR JOINTS around windows and door frames, between wall <br />cavities and window or door frames, between wall and <br />foundation, between wall and roof, between wall panels, at <br />penetrations or utility services through walls, floors and <br />roofs and all other openings in the exterior envelope shall <br />be sealed in a manner approved by the Building Official. <br />{E401.8~2] <br />lANDING / EXTERIOR DOOR. A minimum $ foot x 3 foot landing <br />shall be required on each side of an egress door, The floor <br />or landing shall not be more than 1 and 1/2 inches lower <br />than the top of the threshold. Exception: The landing at <br />the exterior doorway shall not be more than 8 1/4 inches <br />below the top of the threshold.
