Oregon has been considered an area subject to decay damage for
many, many years because of our wet climate. Section 322.1(6) states that
this requirement applies to "Wood structural members supporting moisture-
permeable floors or roofs which are exposed to the weather." Marion County
does not waive code requirements so we decline your request.

All structures have to brace the walls for wind loads and provide a method of
lateral design in accordance with Section 602.9 of the One and Two Family
Dwelling Specialty Code. Sandra Freilinger, the Plans Examiner for this
project, has given you a method of providing lateral support for the structure
by embedding the posts in the ground in concrete. A post bracket in the
concrete slab provides resistance for uplift only and does not address lateral
design. If you do not want to provide for lateral by this method, you may
apply for an addendum to your permit by submitting plans showing an

Marion County Annex · 3150 Lancaster Dr. N.
