Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of omissions or oversights by this office or of noncompliance with any applicable regulations of local government, 4. THE GAP~AGE shall be separated from the dwelling and its attic area by means of 1/2 inch gypsum board applied to the garage side of the wall. Where the separation is a floor- ceiling assembly, the structure supporting the separation shall be protected by 1}2 inch gypsum board or equivalent. 5. SMOKE DETECTORS / ALTE~TIONS, When alterations, repairs or additions requiring a permit occur, or when sleeping rooms are added or created, the entire building shall be provided with smoke detectors located as required for new dwellings: the smoke detectors shall be interconnected and hard wired, EXCEPTION: Detectors shall not be required to be inter- connected and hard wired where the alterations, repairs, or additions do not result in the exposure of electrical wiring by the removal of interior wall and ceiling finishes. [Sec, 316~1,1] 6~ SMOKE DETECTORS shall be installed in each sleeping room, outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the dwelling including basements. All detectors located outside sleeping rooms shall be interconnected such that the actuation of one alarm will actuate these alarms in the individual unit and shall provide an alarm which will be audible in all sleeping areas, Smoke detectors shall be 110 volt with batter back-up. [Sec. 316,1] 7. SMOKE DETECTOR / POWER. In new construction, the required smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from the building wiring when such wiring is served from a commercial source, and when primary power is interrupted, shall receive power from a battery. Wiring shall be permanent and not switched, Smoke detectors shall be permitted to be battery operated when installed in existing buildings without commercial power or in buildings which undergo alterations, repairs or additions regulated by Section 316~11 [Sec. 316.2]
