FOUNDATION ENGINEERING

10 May 1983

Richard L. Webb
Architect
10320 S.W. Washington St.
Portland, OR 97225

Project P-127

Isberg R.¥. Park

Dear Mr. Webb:

This letter confirms our phone conversation on l0 May regarding earthwork for
the proposed Isberg R.V. Park expansion project.

We understand that you plan to backfill the fuel tanks approximately half
way with sand, place a layer of gravel over the sand and pour a mass concrete
cap over the area. We recommend that the sand be compacted using a hand-
operated tamper or vibratory plate compactor to reduce compression of.the
backfill and to prevent the weight of the concrete from being transferred to
the tanks.

You indicated that a 12 inch layer of gravel fill will be placed over the
entire site. Compaction of the gravel fill and base rock to the ~ensity
specified in our letter report dated 4 May 1983 will likely require the use
of a vibratory roller. Repeated passes of a loaded truck or a dozer will
probably not be adequate to obtain the required relative compaction
(95%, ASTM D-698).

It has been a pleasure working with you on this project. Please contact us
if any other questions should arise.

Sincerely,

FOUNDATION ENGINEERING

James K.
