Following
discussion, the Board directed that a comprehensive report be prepared by staff
which provides specific recommendations and costs.
In response, I drafted the attached report based on previous work of the
Courthouse Square Security Committee, and sent it for comment to the Committee
and representatives of each department to be housed in the new building. I
received their feedback and made revisions. The report was then sent to the
Courthouse Square Development Team for feasibility and cost information.
This report is intended to provide an "overall" plan for security and safety in
Courthouse Square, keeping in mind that it should remain flexible so that
enhancements can be made following occupancy as it is impossible to anticipate all
needs until that time.
ISSUES:
It may be helpful in moving us toward resolution to put a framework around these
discussions by articulating the risks and costs we hope to avoid by proactively
planning for safety and security.
Numerous studies and research have documented the following risks:
Emplovee injuries - Violence in the workplace is a modern day reality.
~ Printed on Kecvcled Paper 31 SO Lancaster Drive NE Salem, Oregon 97305
Reduce Reuse Kecycle Reco~'cr wWw.Ope~.o~g/ma~ion
r;ppr,~~`d a 8a d Sessi4n
_l ~3~' `~~I
Dc~Ye3 --- ~' - -- -----•
_ ~ ~_~L (~. ~_L--- ' ~-~ = ~~'.: `
----.
~hairrt~tan
