The issues they have identified include the following:
1. The new 1997 Unifortn Building Code with Oregon Amendments was implemented
on Odober 1,1998. The Oregon Amendments were not available until two weeks
before they were implemented. There have been significant impacts on structural
calculations.
2. The second issue relates to the design parameters for the North Pad development.
0 3. The third issue relates to additional parameters prescribed by Altermatt
Associates, Inc. to improve vibration isolation between the building and the bus
mall.
4. The final element relates to the inability to reuse much of the original design for the
bus canopies because of changes.
I have attached Century West Engineering's letter to us with respect to the amount which they would like to
reoover forthe extra effort. Century West has regrettably raised this issue rather late in the process, but we
also recognize that their concems are legitimate. We would appreciate an opportunity to address their
request at the next team meeting.
Sincer ,
eonard Lodder, A.I.A.
Architect
LL:as
Encl.
cc: John Whittington, Salem Area Mass Transit District
Craig Lewis, Melvin Mark Development Company
Mike Hayford, Century West Engineering Corp.
sszs.~ B
