Excessive debris may require a second flushing. <br />~t lines shall be flushed at a volume and rate as Iisted in the latest edition of NFPA 24, based o`n the inside <br />eter size of the fire main. This flow rate is stamped on the approved set of plans. <br />Hydrant•line testing shali be done after the fire line has ~been flushed to remove all air from the piping. Hydraulic <br />testing shall be done at 150 pounds (ps~ for 1 hour. ACCEPTA.BLE LOSS SHALL BE CALCULATED PER <br />GfiTY OF SALEM STANDARDS. - ~ - <br />SPRINKLER RISERS: <br />Sprinkler lines shall be flushed through the base of the riser with a 4 inch hose attached to riser plates serving 4 <br />inch or g~reater underground supply lines. Supply lines less than 4 inches may be flushed' with a 3 inch hose or 2- <br />21/2 hoses attachrd to the riser plate. A g,unny sack shall be placed over"the open coupling on the end of the <br />flushing line to catch debris in the line. Excessive debris may requ'ue a second flushing. <br />Sprinkler line testing shall be done after the line has been flushed to remove all air from the piping. Hydraulic <br />testing shall be done at 200 pounds (ps~ for 2 houcs. NO LOSS IN PRESSURE IS PERNIITrED. ~ <br />COMBINATION SYSTEMS: <br />Fire lines supply.ing both automatic sprinkler systems and fire hydrants shall be hydraulically tested at 200 psi for <br />2 hours. Tests shall ~be done after the line has.been flushed to both the hydrant(s) and the sprinkler riser(s) to <br />remove alI air from the pipe. Flushing of combination systems shall be performed as for hydrants and sprinkier <br />risers. NO LOSS IN PRESSURE IS PERMITTED. ~ <br />`` test is conducted.as mentioned above should fail, please contact the Deputy Fire Marshal who <br />wttnessed the stazt of the test to reschedule.
