"BUY AMERICA°
Consideration fo~ Waiver
SecGon 08460 Automatic Entrance Doors
Courthouse Square
Project No. 9828
Dear John:
- It has been discovered that a small but vital component of the Automatic Ent~ance Doo~ System located
between the Transit Mall and the Transit Waiting Area, is produced offshore, ln Japan. The Automatic Entrance
Door in question is manufactured by Sierra Automatic Doors, Inc. 1921 Proforma Avenue, Onta~io, CA 91761,
using materials and components sourced prima~ily in the U.S.A. tNhile developing the Spedfications for this
element of the p~oject, we established the following objectives for this particular element:
- The expected traffic volume for the doorvvay ~equired a heavy duty automatic door
system.
- The door system should be a chain drive system rather than a belt drive system to
control maintenance costs.
- ' Door header to be structurally capable of supporting transom lite glass loads.
The resulting speafication cailed for a doorsystem to be manufactured and supplied by Sierra Automatic Doors,
Inc. of Ontario, CA. We were unable to locate other automatic door manufacturers with a product which
matched the heavy duty spedfications, particularly the heavy duty chaln drive system. Accotdingly we request -: --
a waiver from the Buy America requirements for this project, to peRnit this automatic door system to be induded
!n the work. -
Sincer ,
Leonarcl Lodder, AIA -
Architect
LL:grn - .
