~ ~ Workers must leave the work area and replace
cartridges/canisters any time that breathing
resistance increases significantly (filter is
clogging). Workers must also leave the work area and
check the respirator fit, or replace
cartridges/canister, any time that contaminant odors
are detected inside the mask or facepiece (sorbent is
saturated or face seal is inadequate).
c. Care: After use, the respirator will be removed and
thoroughly cleaned with either a mild detergent and
disinfection solution, or a proprietary cleaning
agent. The exhalation valve assembly will be
disassembled and cleaned, and the entire inside and
face seal surface of the mask/facepiece will be
meticulously cleaned. The respirator will then be
rinsed with clean water and allowed to dry (NOTE:
cartridges must not be wetted or exposed to cleaning
agents; removal before cleaning is advised). After
drying, the respirator will be re-assembled, insnected
for deterioration or damage, and then, if in ~
acceptable condition, sealed inside a plastic bag or
other appropriate, sealable container, and placed into
storage.
3. SUPPLIED AIR SYSTEMS
a. Fitting: Prior to entering a contaminated environment, users
will block the air hose to the facepiece/mask and
conduct a"negative pressure test" (see below) as
described in Appendix B.1. The mask/face piece will
be adjusted until an acceptable fit is attained.
b. Use: Prior to use, the respirator system will be thoroughly
inspected and tested. This procedure will include the
following: ~
• The air supply system (cylinders or compressor) will
be inspected and tested to assure in working
condition; all filters will be inspected for
cleanliness, and all air fittings inspected/tested
for leakage.
• The entire length of each air line will be carefully
inspected for signs of deterioration, cuts, or
abrasion. Airlines will then be laid out for use in
a manner that prevents kinking as line is drawn into
the work area.
• Al1 fittings on each regulator will be checked for
tightness, and regulator-to-mask hoses checked for
damage
