S~ecial Conditions For Use of Supplied Air Respirators <br />1. When used in a area where failure of the respirator system <br />could result in the wearer being overcome by toxic <br />contaminants or an Oxygen-deficient atmosphere, at least one <br />additional person will be present at all times. This person <br />will be stationed in an area where they will not be affected <br />by any potential failure/incident, and they shall maintain <br />visual, voice, and/or signal line communication with all ' <br />workers in the contaminated atmosphere area at all times. The <br />additional person shall also have sufficient rescue equipment <br />readily available to assist the other workers in the event of <br />an emergency. <br />2. When workers using supplied air respirator systems enter an <br />IDLH atmosphere area: <br />a. All workers entering the hazardous area will be connected <br />to safety lines, via an approved safety harness, which <br />are suitable for removing and/or lifting persons from the <br />area in the event of an emergency. <br />b. Standby personnel shall be present, with appropriate <br />self-contained breathing apparatus and rescue equipment, <br />to effect a rescue if necessary. <br />RESPIRATORY PROTECTION EQUIPMENT INSPECTIONS <br />Respiratory protection equipment will be inspected prior to each use, <br />and again at the time of cleaning after use. Any damage or <br />deterioration will be reported to supervisors and the Safety Officer, <br />and the affected equipment taken out of service until maintenance/ <br />repairs have been completed. All repairs will be completed by qualified <br />individuals only (e.g., service representatives; manufacturer). <br />For respirators that are used only <br />will conduct an inspection of such <br />these inspections will be recorded <br />form (see Appendix A). <br />intermittently, the Safety Officer <br />equipment monthlv. A Checklist is provided in Appendix C, to assist in this <br />evaluation process. Any deficiencies found by this review/evaluation <br />process will be immediately corrected, and the program revised/updated <br />as necessary. <br />
