~ ~FOOTNOTES
1 IDLH - Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health:
An atmosphere where unprotected exposure to the airborne
contaminants present, or Oxygen deficient conditions, may cause ,
death or permanent adverse health effects, or prevent escape. IDLH
levels for many chemical contaminants are listed in appropriate ~
chemical information resources.
2 Warning Properties:
Chemicals with good warning prope~ties are those whose odor can be
detected by the human nose at concentrations well below hazardous
levels. Some chemicals either have no odor, or an odor that is
detectable only at levels which are above those where health
hazards occur. Air purifying respirators must only be used with
chemicals which have good warni.ng properties, so that sorbent
saturation or face seal leakage is detected before a hazardous
condition exists.
3 Positive Demand:
A positive demand respirator is one in which air is supplied to the
facepiece/mask upon demand of the wearer, and, which maintains a
positive pressure inside the facepiece/mask. This positive pressure
helps prevent contaminants from entering the mask/facepiece.
