Century West to continue providing environmental engineering services without interruption
or delay. Actual construction, beginning with excavation, is set for August 1, 1997. Timely
abatement and planning services are essential to keep this schedule. If the August 1, 1997,
date cannot be met, there is a substantial risk of a significant delay in construction that could
add to the cost of this project. It is in the best interest of the county to contract with Century
West as the environmental engineering firm on site and as the generator of all of the
environmental information upon which the county relies.
FISCAL IMPACT: Marion County will assume pending invoices in the approximate
amount of $79,000, and will negotiate future work based on the rates established in the
contract. Funding will come from the Courthouse Square project.
OPTIONS: 1. Contract with Century West Engineering Corporation, and grant an
exemption fro competitive selection processes due to an emergency.
2. Seek requests for proposals for engineering services.
RECOI~~IlVIEENDATION: Option 1 is recommended. There is a clear need to contract
promptly with Century West Engineering Corporation to continue redevelopment of the
Senator Block without delay or substantial cost increases to the Courthouse Square project.
enclosure: contract
cc: Randy Curtis, General Services
David Hartwig, Contracts O~cer
