r
I suggest that the Courthouse Square project be suspended until
the County Commission is functional, the public's questions have been
addressed and the project itself is fully detailed.
In sum, I believe the Marion County Commission should take on
these challenges one step at a time.
1. Do not move forward with any part of the Courthouse
Square until there are three fully functional members of the County
Commission.
2. Address each question raised concerning the Courthouse
Square in detail during public information and involvement meetings
held in each city in Marion County.
3. Hold those that have made errors which have shattered the
public's trust and confidence accountable.
4. Provide Courthouse Square detailed information to the
public ranging from cash flow analysis to debt financing structures.
And,
5. Place the entire Courthouse Square project - as finally
designed and priced - before the voters of Marion County for a final
decision. I for one am not afraid to have the voters of Marion County
decide the fate of the Courthouse Square. It is their money. That is
what I believe the residents of Marion County are really seeking. The
Courthouse Square has awakened the taxpayer's accountability giant.
Let's restore con~dence in our County. Let's empower our
voters. Let's answer their questions. Let's ask them for a decision.
