CCTV wants to help
p A Marion County create a high-quality, low-maintenance media-ready hearing
U F room that will serve for years to come.
g F
L - ~ After the May 20, meeting, I sent hearing room drawings to Brian Girtman, the
I R engineer/systems designer who designed CCTV's production van; I met with
~ ~ s Brian on Monday of this week. I am providing Brian's responses and
I concerns, and several questions. First I address the questions raised in the May
meeting.
~-
~
EDUC.4TION &
ENTERTAINMENT
CQn~uNr~rY
Vp~e~~
~V
Biuilding
Community
through
relevision
1. What changes are needed to the structure of the Audio-Visual room?
No changes are essential; if affordable, two are helpful. Moving the hallway
door opposite the projection window to a location not opposite a window, and
adding a smaller window near the wide end of the AV room for rapid TV crew
visual access to the hearing room would be helpful.
The location of electrical outlets and overhead track lighting need to be
addressed. Outlets and power strips need to be located close to equipment,
whether television, house audio system or audio-visual projection. Track light
placement will also need to be addressed. Brian is making drawings of
equipment racks which will show the best locations for lights.
2. What are the HVAC needs?
The room should be treated like a computer room, with optimum temperature of
68 degrees, not to exceed 70 degrees. Based on an equipment draw of 3,000
watts maximum and a crew of three people, 5,000 BTU will suffice. A single
watt requires 1.15 BTU of cooling.
We are also concerned about blower noise, primarily in the hearing room.
Obviously, quiet is good. Since there are no mics in the AV room, that area
needs a less demanding level of noise, one that will not bother those who are
working.
Brian also recommends that the AV room output vents run through electrostatic
units made by Honeywell or others. These units remove dust, keep the air
cleaner and cut equipment maintenance costs.
