Geotechnical Engineering
Where real property is concemed, conditions below grade are often as important as sur&ce conditions.
This is true especially when construction is contemplated. The most cost-effective way to ascertain
subsurface conditions is by obtaining Geotechnical services such as those provided by the professionals
at PSI.
A solid foundation is an essential prerequisite for a well-constructed building. A thorough subsurface
exploration can result in a more cost-effective foundation design and reduce construction delays (and
costs) caused by unforeseen conditions. Geotechnical conditions also play a crucial role in proper design
and construction of roadways, runways, bridges, dams, and other structures.
Geotechnical services commence with project planning and design, extend into construction, and may
continue through the in-service life of the structure. Through our extensive range of exploratory
techniques, we determine the behavior of soil, rock, and water, as natural phenomena and construction
activities affect these media. Our Geotechnical engineering services include:
•Preliminary Geotechnical Investigations
• Hydrogeological and Stormwater Engineering
• Roadway/'Transporta.tion Investigation & Design
•Modeling Service
• Site Preparation & Foundation Specifications
• Foundation Testing, Inspection & Evaluation
• Slope Stability and Embankment Evaluation
• Site Characterizations
• Design-Level Geotechnical Engineering
• Pavement Evaluation and Design
• Permitting Assistance
• Retaining Wall Engineering
• Retention Pond Analysis
Quality is an integral part of PSI's approach to Geotechnical works. Our Senior Engineers and Chief
Engineers have years of demonstrated experience and are the crux of our quality assurance program.
These Senior and Chief Engineers review all reports and documentation on each project to make certain
tha.t PSPs methodologies and technical approach and recommendations for design and constructioq
along with contractual agreements, are followed. In addition, field and laboratory personnel receive
intensive training from seasoned veterans.
Our clients benefit from the experience gained from the successful completion of tens of thousands of
subsurfice explorations performed by PST personnel on a wide variety of projects. Our experience
ranges from projects requiring a few borings to large projects requiring several hundred borings. Project
types include:
/ High Rises, Medium Rise to Single-Story Buildings
/ Commercial and Industrial Facilities
/ Health Care Facilities
/ Schools and Educational Facilities
/ Transportation Facilities
/ Public Facilities
/ Docks and Harbors
/ Communications and Transmission towers
/ Airports
/ Dams
Nv~ .
