Funding for this study ($30,000)
was provided by the City of Salem, Marion County and the Oregon State
Police.
The consultanYs report was received and distributed in December of 1993.
The consultant also conducted and submitted a report regarding other Marion
County faciliry needs for the next 20 years. For the past three months, a joint
task force, with representatives from all three law enforcement agencies have
been meeting with Counry officials to assess the reports and develop a strategy
for irnplementing the consultant's recommendations.
On March 9, 1994, the Board of Commissioners approved an action plan (see
attachment) which will allow for citizen review and input on the various
options identified in the faciliry report. The action plan calls for the creation
of a steering committee and 7 subcommittees. Each Subcommittee will focus
on a specific program area, including the joint law enforcement facility.
Marion County is requesting the city's participation on both the Steering
Committee and the Law Enforcement Subcommittee. We would appreciate
your consideration of at least one elected official to serve on the steering
committee and two staff to serve on the law enforcement subcommittee. We
anticipate conducting an orientation meeting for the committee members in
mid-May.
Senator Building • 220 High Street NE • Salem, Oregon 97301-3670 ,
