out in fact if there was a flaw in the population projections. The second
question is: Does it really change the space and staff_ projections that
were put into the report? Randy is expecting a report by the end of the
week. .
STATUS REPORT ON NEW COURTHOUSE OPTION D:
The Courts sub committee has raised the question of building a new
Courthouse. You can read more about this in your Courts sub commit-
tee minutes. This concept has been labeled option D. Randy has
broken it down into 2 parts Di and D2. The concept is to build a new
justice center on the Senator block and convert this building into an
administrative office building. Their Justification is the public would rather
buy a new justice center than an administrative building. There are some
real cost factors and flaws in the implementation. Randy has done some
preliminary cost estimates and the consultants are checking all the
assumptions. Randy should have a report by the end of next week. If
we were to build a new justice center, there would not be enough space
in the Courthouse for all the departments currently on the Senator block.
This would still leave us with not enough space. The question is where
would they go? Either we do a public administration annex on the
Senator block along with the justice center and scale it down or they
move to some other location in the community and we have not analyzed
those options. But we do know we don't have enough space in the
Courthouse for the dislocated departments. The Housing Authority office
is included in this, but no apartments. The Courthouse has the potential
of being a 6 story building, but that would require gutting and remodeling
the entire building. The consultants are looking at the cost to modify and
current seismic, fire, life, safety codes.
