Jack Rogers of the Oregon State P.D. opened the discussion. He informed
that the State Police joined farces with the City of Salem and Marion County
back in December of 1991 on this project and they have been working very
hard to produce a feasible "one-stop-shopping" facility: the proposed Tri-
Agency facility.
Lt. Rogers began with a brief history of the Salem office of the State P.D. The
office was formerly located on State Street, from 1965 until a few years ago,
but had to relocate to the current Portland Road location when the Highway
Department needed their office space back.
Lt. Rogers stated that some of the basic needs of the State P.D. which could be
met by the proposed Tri-Agency facility aze:
1. more space!
2. firing range
3. EVOC course
4. civilian personnel to process evidence (this would free up the time of at
least one officer)
5. vehicle impound lot
6. networking among State, City & County Police Officers
7. AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) centrally located
Most of these aze things which aze needed by all three agencies, and thus could
be shared among them.
