Agency Functions <br />The people of Marion County in the early 1900s petitioned <br />the County Commissioners to declare Marion County a dog <br />control district according to ORS 609.030. In 1973 a <br />petition filed on ORS 609.060, and a county wide vote made <br />it illegal for dogs to run at large. In 1989 the city of <br />Salem repealed all their ordinances on dogs. The County <br />provides Dog control as required by ORS 609 for the county <br />and all the cites except the cities of Stayton and Woodburn, <br />who have their own dog control programs. <br />In 1977 the legislature passed ORS 433.365 the rabies law, <br />which requires all dogs be inoculated against rabies be for <br />they can be licensed. <br />We provide service to the public eight hours a day five <br />days a week, Monday through Friday except for holidays. <br />During the 1993/94 fiscal year we handled 17,722 <br />complaints concerning dogs. These complaints consisted of <br />Stray dogs impounded 2209 dogs <br />Dogs into livestock 138 <br />Stray dog complaints 2022 <br />Nuisance complaints 15,181 <br />Assist outside agencies 26 <br />Lost dogs 355 <br />b. Facilities <br />Rent 1,000 square feet of office space in the Marion <br />County Health Building at 3180 Center St NE Salem, <br />Oregon. Rent per year $ 10,103.00 <br />Contract with The Humane Society of the Willamette <br />Valley.
