BOX 12869
%
SALEM, OREGON 97309-0869
JAMES H. MURCHISON
COUrt AdmmiStrator
(503)588-5368
May 19, 1994
MEMORANDUM
To: Members - Sub-Committee on Courts and Court Security,
Marion County Facility Steering Committee
From: James H. Murch n
Trial Court Ad ' st tor
Subject: Meeting Schedu - Preliminary Materials
Thank you to those who were able to attend the initial orientation meeting of the Faciliry
Steering Commiccee. For those who were unable to be present on May 16, we look forward
to seeing you at our future sub-commi[tee mee[ings.
Several items of business were conducted by the sub-committee on 5/ 16. The next several
meetings were scheduled. Please note on your calendars the next three meetings. They have
been scheduled for Fridays, ]une 3, )une 17 and )uly 1, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. in
the Presiding Judge's conference room (first floor of the courthouse, just inside the North-
Court Street - entrance).
Included with chis memo is a roster of the sub-committee's membership, along with an
extract from the report of the WE Group, the County's facilities consultants.
A question was asked about the Court's workload, and availability of case filing data. The
WE Group report reflects historic data on page 15, and projections on page 16. WE Group
scaff have a good ~rack record for their projections, and this data is probably the most reliable
information available, with a note of cau[ion in one area.
Circuit Court has seen a dramatic increase in civil and domestic relations cases in 1993.
Total filings for 1993 were 19,803, exceeding the projections even for the year 2003. I
expect the civil filing rate to ease off, but the domes[ic relations caseload will probably
continue at a greater rate than projected. Therefore, the Circuit Court projections appear
to be understated.
