MINUTES <br />COU RT/SECU RITY SUB-COMMITTEE <br />The Courts and Court Security Sub-Committee of the Facilities Steering Committee met from <br />12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, ]une 3, 1994 in the Presiding ]udge's conference <br />room. <br />The meeting was conducted by Mr. William Meier, chair. The following matters were <br />discussed. <br />The Committee was presented with an overview of the Courts and Court facilities, including <br />the Courthouse, Courts Annex and Juvenile Department. Projections for growth and future <br />needs were discu'ssed. Present needs for an adequate jury assembly room and additional <br />records storage space were identified. <br />Additional issues raised for further consideration included: the need for courtrooms; parking, <br />including juror parking; the advantages/disadvantages of a centralized facility versus <br />distributing Courts and Court functions to multiple sites; and the philosophical direction <br />adopted by the Judiciat Department's Visions Committee toward community-based dispute <br />resolution processes. <br />The Committee then addressed the issue of security in Court facilities: Following discussion, <br />there was agreement that securiry issues require a more immediate response. Staff was <br />directed to prepare a proposal for securiry enhancemenu for all Court facilities, for review <br />at the next meeting. <br />The Committee was reminded that the Steering Committee has requested a tentative <br />timetable for the Sub-Committee's report, and would request that information by early ]u(y. <br />Also the Downtown Sub-Committee has requested information by ]uly 5 regarding this Sub- <br />Committee's tentative recommendations on the issue of the use of the Courthouse <br />(centralized versus decentralized courts.) <br />The next two meetings are scheduled for June 17 and July l, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 <br />p.m. in the Presiding Judge's Conference room. <br />)HM:stl <br />
