Courts should continue to occupy the Courthouse.
Non-court functions should be relocated to other facil-
ities. The committee recommended this be done in two
phases. Phase I would give priority to court security
and security related space needs. Phase II would add
new courtrooms and related support space as needed.
The committee also recommended that a consultant be
hired to evaluate the Courthouse and develop a remodel-
ing master plan.
Vote was unanimous with all members voting yes to the
recommendation.
DOWNTOWN RECOMMENDATION:
The committee was not willing to make a motion at this
time. There were several questions raised: Do all
departments need to be in the same building? Would
remodeling downtown buildings give enough space to
house all departments or would it be more cost effec-
tive to build a new building? What is the status on
downtown parking and Transit Mall? City responded
"They have not made any commitments at this time."
Ken Sherman has made inquires into the Equitable build-
ing. It is possible that this building could be avail-
able and could house all departments.
