It does not appear feasible to <br />phase in the construction of this facility over several years. <br />D. RISKS AND LIABILITIES <br />1. If additional space is not provided for the sheriffs office, there is not adequate <br />room in the courthouse for court e~ansion. <br />2. Failure to develop the Tri-Agency facility would also adversely impact the <br />implementation of recommendations to expand the capacity of the jai] and work release <br />center. <br />3. The development of separate facilities would not necessarily allow the agencies <br />to share common facilities such as training and meeting rooms, weapons range, vehicle <br />maintenance, data and communication systems. <br />4. There is also concern that because this project is the most expensive of all <br />projects considered by the committee ($30 million), other short term facility projects may <br />not get funded. <br />E. RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Construct a 165,000 square foot law enforcement facility on 25 acres <br />immediately east of the corrections campus. The facility will house the Salem police <br />department and municipal court; Marion County's sheriff's office; and the Oregon~ate <br />PAGE 2 <br />ksj/cd/Tri-Agency. 03/10/95 <br />in constructing this facility. <br />
