committee did not feel it was appropriate for the courts to move ~out of the courthouse and
convert it to county office space.
2. The courts are currently planning for the use of video technology, and are also
encouraged to consider "double shifting" of court operarions.
E. RISKS AND LIABILITIES
1. Some members of the committee feel that the public will be more supportive
of a bond measure if new building construction is tied to criminal justice programs rather
than the growth of general government. The consultant's study may reveal that the
courthouse does not have adequate space to accommodate future court needs. In that
event, consideration should be given to expanding the courthouse to meet the needs of the
courts in the later years of the 20-year planning cycle.
2. It is also possible that the new facilities needed to accommodate the relocation
of county offices will not be funded when needed to permit the timely e.~cpansion of the
courts within the courthouse.
PAGE 25
ksi/cd/Facilities.Int 03/18/95
