<br />CONCLUSIONS AND PRIORI'I'T~S <br />1. It would be wonderful if the counry's facilities needs lined up neatly in terms <br />of urgency, with the need for a new facility coming to the fore every two or three years. <br />Unfortunately, the county has been "living on borrowed time" with respect to its facilities for <br />many years, and if it is to meet the service needs of tilarion County residents over the 20- <br />year planning period, the county is going to have to shift into a higher gear with respect to <br />facilities development. To the extent that the steerinQ committee felt comfortable in makin~ <br />recommendations on priorities, they are contained in the substance of the paragraphs which <br />follow; and the order in which these paragraphs are presented is not intended to convey any <br />further conclusions or recommendations with respect to prioritv. <br />2. The committee believes that the hiQhest priority should be given to the <br />development of facilities needed to deliver public safety and health sen~ces. This <br />recommendation is based not only on the paramount i~ponance of public safety and health, <br />but also on the fact that the needs in these sectors are particularly urgent. <br />3. Accordingly, Marion County should first turn its attention to the following <br />projects: <br />A. The cqAstruction of a new juvenile building on the six acre <br />parcel adjacent to the current juvenile building. <br />B. The construction of the Tri-Agency law enforcement facility on <br />the 25 acre parcel adjacent to the Marion County jail. <br />C. The addition to the Manon County jail of a new pod, capable <br />of ultimately accommodating 150 to 192 additional beds. <br />D.
